MORRISON UTILITY CONNECTIONS AWARDED GRID CONTRACT FOR PORT OF TYNE BATTERY STORAGE PROJECT

Morrison Utility Connections, a major projects Independent Connection Provider (ICP) and part of Morrison Utility Services, has been appointed by energy storage system integrator RES (Renewable Energy Systems) to design and develop a 37MVA grid connection from South Shields to the Port of Tyne, one of the UK’s major deep-sea ports and trading gateways.

The 35MW energy storage project at Port of Tyne was developed and will be constructed and operated by RES, one of the world’s leading independent renewable energy and energy storage developers.  The project was recently acquired by Foresight Group (Foresight), an independent infrastructure and private equity investment manager with an operational portfolio of more than 80 solar PV projects and 28 Energy from Waste (EfW) projects with a collective generating capacity of more than 1GW, enough to power more than 600,000 UK homes with clean electricity.

With construction work scheduled to begin in July 2017, Morrison Utility Connections’ ten-month scope of works will include installation and commissioning of a containerised substation, auxiliary transformer and connection of the battery storage equipment. 

A comprehensive community engagement plan has been developed to ensure all key stakeholders are fully informed of the grid connection works.
