Ice Pigging

Morrison Utility Services and Agbar Environment are proud to announce an innovative breakthrough in pipe cleaning technology; Ice Pigging.

Ice Pigging is a method of cleaning pipes, typically potable water mains, using ice slurry.  The ice is normally inserted into the main using existing fittings such as fire hydrants and is pushed along by the mains water, taking with it sediment from inside the pipe.  It is effective in removing manganese, iron, bio-film and other foreign matter and is suitable for raw water, potable water and sewer networks across all pipe materials.

Ice pigging compares very favourably against the standard ways of cleaning the networks; it can be used to clean both distribution and trunk mains and reduces customer disruption and supply interruptions as enabling works are rarely required.  The ice pig can go anywhere water can go and no post chlorination is needed as the pig is chlorinated.  The increase in effectiveness compared with traditional cleaning techniques coupled with its broad suitability across the network will provide a substantial cost saving to the water companies in terms of both maintenance costs and capital deferment.

Maintaining water quality standards is essential to the water companies and their customers alike and Ice Pigging is an effective tool in improving these issues as well as meeting the legislations drawn up by the water and sewerage regulator OFWAT.

Morrison Utility Services are the sole providers of Ice Pigging in the north of England and Scotland via the ice pigging specialist Agbar Environment Limited, who are the exclusive licencee of the technology.
