Training
As a steering group member of EU Skills, the utility industry’s dedicated skills council, we lead the design of development programmes that provide training to industry-recognised standards. We were the first utility services provider to offer the EU Skills Utility Network Construction Supervisor qualification, which officially recognises line managers’ essential expertise in utility construction and maintenance more>.
Our involvement at the forefront of workforce development also includes close collaboration with the Institute of Safety and Health, City and Guilds, Investors in People, the Construction Industry Training Board and the Institution of Engineering Technology (IET).
Our Safety Technical Competence Framework defines the competences required for specified roles and documents and maintains records of individual competence. Working with senior managers, our Skills Development Team regularly audits staff competence and resolves potential skills gaps with targeted training programmes.
New employees undergo an equally comprehensive skills assessment. Regularly and rigorously audited by Lloyds’ Register Quality Assurance to meet the criteria of our OHSAS 18001 Safety Management System, these processes are also essential elements in our successful management of large-scale employee transfers, seamlessly integrating people into our business and managing cultural change.
As a large contracting business, we maintain a dedicated training centre to help us balance the demands of client work with essential staff development. Its range of specialist training facilities ensures our staff learn the key skills they need as efficiently as possible. The exemplary practical and professional skills our staff display in their day-today work reflect the expert industry experience and knowledge of our professional trainers.
